What is research?

Research is the systematic investigation into and study of materials and sources in order to establish facts and research new conclusions.

Health research is the study of human health, to discover better ways to prevent and treat disease, and to help improve patient care and treatment.

Many forms of health research exist and we are committed to conducting research that addresses the needs of our community.

  • Clinical research: studies that involve people. It is focused on improving the diagnosis and treatment of disease or injury and improving the health and quality of life of individuals as they progress through life stages.
  • Health systems research: a multidisciplinary approach that examines how people access healthcare practitioners and healthcare services, how much care costs and what happens to patients as a result of this care.
  • Social, cultural, environmental and population health research: studies which have a goal of improving health of the general population, or defined sub-populations, through a better understanding of the ways in which social, cultural, environmental, occupational and economic factors affect health status.
