The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Markham Stouffville Hospital is a specifically designated area where continuous monitoring, assessment, evaluation, and treatment are provided to critically ill patients experiencing a life-threatening condition. The collaborative effort of the ICU team assures the delivery of best quality care for our patients and their families.
We understand having a loved one in the ICU can be a stressful and overwhelming experience. You will need support during this difficult time and we are here to help you.
A specially trained team of nurses, doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, speech language pathologists, social workers, and chaplains provides care and support to all critically ill patients and their families during their stay in the ICU.
Visiting the ICU
The patient, if able, will determine who is allowed visitation privileges. Visitors must leave if asked to do so by the patient or a member of the health care team. Visitors will be asked to remain at their loved one’s bedside or in the visitor’s lounge to respect the privacy of other patients.
Visiting Hours at the ICU
The ICU adheres to the 24-hour Oak Valley Health visiting hour policy. Shift change in the ICU occurs at 7 a.m. – 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. To help maintain patient confidentiality, please refrain from visiting during these times. Visitors will be asked to wait in the visitor’s lounge during shift changes. Visiting hours may change based on patient acuity.
After-Hours Visiting
Most doors at the hospital are locked after 9 p.m. If you are visiting a loved one during this time, please use the entrance in the Emergency Department.
