Minor Surgical Unit

The Minor Surgical Unit (MSU) at Markham Stouffville Hospital includes eye surgeries (opthamology surgeries), minor plastic procedures and general minor general surgery procedures. The MSU performs about 2,800 procedures per year including:

  • Excision of lesions (removal of damaged tissue called a lesion) and moles
  • Laser surgery for glaucoma
  • Treatment of hand contractures (a deformity of the hand that occurs over time and pulls the fingers into a bent position) and trigger fingers (when the fingers get stuck in a bent position)
