If you are pregnant, you are highly encouraged to register for a Childbirth services orientation session to find out what you need to know before you arrive at Markham Stouffville Hospital to deliver your baby. Also, you can take a ‘Planning for your pregnancy and beyond’ class, where you can learn about making a birth plan, variations in labour and delivery, pain management, life with a new baby, and more. If you have a concern about your pregnancy or think you may be in labour, call the obstetrical assessment telephone line at 905-472-7366, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You will be connected with one of our registered nurses who will ask you several questions about your specific situation and work with you to establish a care plan.
Coming to the hospital

If you come in for an assessment, bring your health card to our triage area on the top floor of building B. The nurse will update your healthcare provider about your situation and you may be admitted to our Labour and Delivery Unit, or go home with your care plan.
What else should you bring with you?
If you are being admitted, please bring personal hygiene products, towels, washcloths, diapers, and clothes for mother and baby. Remember to bring any supplies for your support person such as food, blankets and pillows.
Patient gowns, baby blankets and feeding supplies will be provided during your hospital stay.
Parking lot options
During regular business hours:
- Visitor parking lot #1 at Church Street and Butternut Lane and come in through the main entrance
- Visitor parking lot #6 off Bur Oak Avenue and come in through entrance D, beside the Emergency Department
After regular hours
- Visitor parking lot #6 off Bur Oak Avenue and come in through the main Emergency Department entrance; security will escort you to the Childbirth Unit.
