ABCs of breastfeeding workshop (before birth):

If you intend to breastfeed, we encourage you and your partner to attend a prebirth breastfeeding class. In collaboration with Markham Prenatal, this class is led by a lactation consultant from Markham Stouffville Hospital. It offers detailed information about breastfeeding. Women who take this class report improved success and less frustration when they begin breastfeeding. This is a free service and you can register by visiting Markham Prenatal

Breastfeeding classes after birth

We regret to inform you that all breastfeeding classes have been suspended due to COVID-19, however all mothers who intend to breastfeed will be assessed by a Lactation Consultant during their stay in the hospital. In the days following birth you may also choose to have a lactation consultant call you at home to assess how breastfeeding is going. Until further notice, all outpatient breastfeeding appointments will be by referral only.

For community breastfeeding support please visit the Healthy Babies, Healthy Children link below.

MSH has a partnership with Public Health for the Healthy Babies, Healthy Children program and breastfeeding support. The public health nurse visits the hospital weekdays and can connect you to supportive community programs.
