The Medicine/Inpatient Oncology Unit at Markham Stouffville Hospital serves two different patient populations: patients who have acute medical conditions and patients with cancer from initial diagnosis and treatment to meeting end-of-life care needs.

Goals of the Medicine/Oncology Inpatient Unit

It is the goal of the healthcare team to offer family-centred care that adheres to best practices in acute medicine and oncological care. On admission to the unit, the care team will facilitate assessment, diagnosis and development of an individualized treatment plan.

Patients admitted to the hospital with an acute medical or oncological-related diagnosis are transferred to 3 East, building A, including those from the Markham (Emergency Department or Oncology Clinic) and Uxbridge sites.
