The specimen collection laboratories at Oak Valley Health conduct laboratory and electrocardiogram (ECG) tests efficiently and quickly to assist physicians in diagnosing patients’ conditions.

Our expert team of pathologists, microbiologists, clinical chemists, technologists, technicians, pathologists’ assistants, laboratory information system analysts, and clerical staff serve our hospitals 24 hours a day, every day. Over 100 highly-trained individuals work in our laboratories; these professionals provide diagnostic, screening, and monitoring tests for patients visiting our outpatient clinics, Emergency Department, and who are patients in our hospitals. Our labs are licensed by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, and hold a four-year accreditation certificate issued by the Institute for Quality Management in Healthcare.

Patient Experience

Our facilities are wheelchair accessible and infant/child-friendly. The compassionate professionals in laboratory medicine understand that drawing blood samples can cause some anxiety and that waiting for laboratory results can be stressful. We provide emergency and rapid response testing quickly, to meet the needs of patients and physicians. Emergency laboratory service is offered 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Note: The specimen collection laboratories at Oak Valley Health do not accept requisitions from community physicians or health care practitioners.

Community members who are not actively receiving treatment at our hospitals, with requisitions from their physician’s offices or other health care institutions, can visit one of Markham, Stouffville, or Uxbridge’s laboratory service providers listed below. Community laboratory services are funded by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) and, with the exception of tests not covered by OHIP, you will not incur additional costs for testing at these labs.
