“It’s a common thread – we’re all human and we all want to be treated with kindness and empathy.”
This is how Patient and Family Centred Care Consultant, Kanwal Ali, explains the motivation behind her passion to continuously improve the patient experience at Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH).
As a member of the Quality, Patient Relations and Experience, Patient Safety and IPAC Department, Kanwal’s job is to ensure that staff have the tools and training to provide care that is delivered with empathy, respect and through good communication.
Since learning about the role quality and safety has in health care while studying industrial engineering in university, Kanwal knew it was something she was meant to do.
“Being able to bring my quality improvement background, as well as my process driven and technical way of thinking into a health care setting has been really meaningful for me in my career,” she admits.
Kanwal also appreciates working with the team at MSH. “This organization is committed to listening to how we make our patients feel and connecting with our community to truly deliver patient centred care.”
In her spare time, Kanwal enjoys spending quality time with her husband and two young sons. Whether she’s out in nature or at a sports game, Kanwal loves being involved with activities as a family.
