On September 6, 2017, Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH) welcomed guests from Sick Kids to MSH to participate in a launch event and to spend the day meeting with our clinical teams in ED and Childbirth and Children’s services. At the event, MSH President & CEO Jo-anne Marr was able to speak about how proud MSH is to be working with such great and reputable partners and that it is committed to being able to serve even more children. Sick Kids CEO Mike Apkon and MSH’s Dr. Andrew Arcand talked about how this partnership will make a real difference to MSH, its patients and community.
The Kids Health Alliance (KHA) is comprised of founding members The Hospital for Sick Children, Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario and Holland Bloorview. MSH was invited as the first community member of KHA. This great partnership brings together some of the best resources for providing care to children and youth. This alliance provides a terrific opportunity to improve quality and safety by spreading evidence-based leading practices, sharing specialized resources and expertise, making transitions easier when patients are transferred between healthcare providers and finally, improving collaboration - all things that will ultimately benefit patients.
MSH is excited to be working with these partners. The KHA will focus on the emergency department, inpatient paediatrics and the NICU ensuring physician thought leadership, implementation of best practice guidelines, and educational opportunities for staff working in these areas. This will ensure MSH is well positioned to lead the way among community hospitals in paediatric and neonatal clinical best practice close to home.
