The Markham Stouffville Hospital Board of Directors is currently recruiting new Board and Community Members for the 2021/22 Board year starting in June 2021.

At a minimum, a Board Director should expect to commit 10 hours per month of their time to hospital business, including attending Board and committee meetings. MSH is a skills based Board and vacancies will be filled by individuals with the needs and skills identified by the Board as part of their annual recruitment planning cycle.

Community Members serve in select Board Standing Committees and are not a Board Director.

Individuals receive no monetary compensation for these roles.

We expect that candidates will bring a range of skills and experience to the MSH Board of Directors, including, but not limited to those skills listed below. Prospective candidates for the Board will be considered based on equal weighting of the following criteria:

  • Fit with the organizational Mission, Values and Culture;
  • Alignment of experience and influence that represents value added to champion our strategic goals;
  • Goal of increased cultural diversity and gender balance to reflect our community and diverse stakeholders;
  • Personal and professional integrity, wisdom and judgment;
  • Commitment to ethical standards and behaviour;
  • Experience in and understanding of governance including the roles and responsibilities of the Board and individual Directors and the difference between governance and management;
  • Actively participate and communicate effectively as a member of the team with other members of the Board and senior management;
  • Ability to think critically and ask relevant questions at a strategic level;
  • Be a resident, or employed, or carry on business in the Markham/Stouffville/ Uxbridge catchment area;
  • Has been a patient or family member of a patient at MSH.
