Beyond Diversity: Stronger Together
At MSH, It is essential that diversity, equity and inclusion are interwoven into the fabric of our workplace, hospital and community. It is our vision that every person feels respected and welcome when they come through our doors, whether they are MSH employees, patients or community members. It is our desire to achieve an outstanding patient experience and we know this requires a deep understanding of every individual’s unique needs.
In 2016, MSH launched a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategic plan which focuses on education and awareness activities, and developing a culture of respect. Through extensive internal and external engagement, we established our core values which translate into behaviours that will become our code of behaviour, and serve as our patient declaration of values.
At MSH we believe that our core values direct us toward the fundamental foundations of care.
Education and awareness events
- Annual diversity fair – Since 2016 we have held an annual fair to celebrate and enjoy a variety of diversity, equity and inclusion activities. The theme for the 2018 Diversity Fair was Beyond Diversity: Embracing the Multigenerational Workforce.
- Faith and healthcare series – fall 2017/spring 2018 - People view healthcare and healing through various cultural and religious lenses which can influence trust in their care plan and care team. Having faith communities present to our staff helps us as an institution to be supportive to our patients and their spiritual needs. Staff were invited to a series of information sessions about how faith/culture and healthcare is interpreted through Islamic, Buddhist, Hindu, Jewish, Sikh, and Jehovah Witness and other Christian traditions.
