Peter Wilkinson holds the position of Senior Vice President, Regulatory and Public Affairs at Manulife Financial. He is also a member of Manulife’s Global Leadership Team.
He is responsible for promoting and protecting the company’s interests by advocating in national and international arenas with government, regulators and standard-setters on issues that affect the company’s operations, customers and enable new business opportunities to both protect and grow shareholder value. He is also responsible for philanthropy, sponsorship and corporate social responsibility.
Before joining Manulife, Wilkinson was Chief of Staff to the Premier of Ontario from 2006 to 2010. Previously, he was Chief of Staff to the Ontario Minister of Finance, Minister of Revenue and Chair of Management Board from 2003 to 2006.
Prior to his role as the Chief of Staff to the Ontario Minister of Finance, Peter was the Vice President, Communications, Government and External Relations at the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA). During his tenure with the CICA (1994-2003), he was responsible for communications, government and external relations plus income and commodity tax policy.
Prior to CICA, Peter served as the Director of Government Affairs for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario. He was the Ontario government representative to South Asia based in New Delhi, India from 1988 to 1990 and worked as a special assistant to the Ontario Minister of Industry, Trade and Technology and the Minister of Tourism and Recreation from 1985 to 1988.
Peter is a graduate from the University of Western Ontario and also studied at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania (executive program).
Peter was born in Montreal and grew up in Trenton, Ontario. He is married to Anne Ng, and they have one daughter, Sarah.
