The Emergency Departments at Markham Stouffville Hospital Corporation provide rapid treatment for community members who experience sudden illness or trauma.  Operating without interruption, our Emergency Departments are staffed by a team of experts specializing in emergency medicine. Each of our Emerg Departments have access to state-of-the-art diagnostic assessment equipment and laboratory services.

The inpatient units at each site provide acute care for adults with medical conditions - distinctive from surgical care needs. Nearly one third of our beds are equipped with portable heart monitors and are known as “telemetry beds” at the Markham site. 

The Critical Care Unit is a specifically designated area within the hospital where continuous monitoring, assessment, evaluation and treatment is provided to critically ill patients experiencing a life threatening condition. 

A specially trained team of nurses, doctors, physiotherapists, dieticians, occupational therapist, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, speech language pathologists and social workers provide care and support to the critically ill patient and their families.

The idea of surgery for you or your loved one can be one of the most stressful situations you or your family may face.  Our surgical team recognizes this and has created a full continuum of care in order to provide information and care that will help minimize that anxiety.
