Surgery Clinic

Surgical Assessment

Markham Stouffville Hospital's Surgical Assessment Clinic helps patients who require elective (planned) surgery to prepare for their procedures in advance of surgery.  The surgeon's office will schedule an appointment for you and one of our nurses will complete the preparations for your upcoming surgery.

Hip and Knee Replacement Class

If you are having hip or knee replacement surgery, you will need to attend a special class in addition to your Surgical Assessment appointment. This class will introduce you to a physiotherapist, a pharmacist, a social worker and an occupational therapist and will help you prepare for your surgery and recovery afterwards. Plan to spend the whole afternoon at the Hospital, so be sure to have lunch before you arrive.

If you need to see the Anaesthesiologist, we will make an appointment for you. You may also need to have blood work, an ECG and some X-rays while you are here for the class.
