The hospitalization of a young family member can be a difficult and stressful time for the parents, the child and for siblings. At Markham Stouffville Hospital’s Children’s Centre, we are committed to making your child’s hospital stay a positive experience. Dr. Bear is our pre-admission program for patients aged 4 to 12 years of age, who are booked for surgery. The goal of our program is to help ease any psychological or emotional stress you or your child may have about the surgery.
Our Child Life Specialist and trained volunteers introduce children to the Hospital through medical-related games and play. A group tour with a volunteer nurse and Child Life Specialist familiarizes you and your family with our Hospital environment.
