Chemotherapy Clinic - New Patients

Appointments

Consult Appointments

Consult Appointments - During treatment with the oncologist, there will be appointments at various intervals. Consult appointments are usually scheduled for a Monday or a Tuesday and treatment is usually scheduled for another day. Exceptions can be made for patients who come from a distance and wish to schedule consult appointments and treatment on the same day. If you have concerns at any time during your treatment, speak with the nurse and arrangements will be made for you to see the doctor at an appropriate time.

Blood Work - Blood work is required before each treatment to ensure your blood counts are within acceptable range to receive chemotherapy. We encourage you to have blood drawn the day before in the outpatient lab.

Chemotherapy Appointments - During your appointment your chemotherapy will be administered by a registered nurse.

What to Expect During Chemotherapy Appointments

Prior to each treatment, the nurse will ask you to fill out a symptom form and will discuss it with you – this form will address only symptoms or side effects as a result of your treatment or disease. Your weight will be monitored at every visit and we ask that you please bring all current medications with you, including over the counter drugs. After your assessment is complete, there may be a wait while the chemotherapy is prepared. We will ask that you wait in the lobby and the nurse will call you when it is prepared.

What to Bring With You

Please remember to bring the following items with you when you come to the Chemotherapy Clinic:

       · Health Card
       · All Medications you take including over the counter drugs
       · A snack – if a long treatment is expected
       · Diabetics should bring a snack or meal, insulin and related supplies
