20th Annual Celebration of Hope Luncheon Raises over $200,000 for Markham Stouffville Hospital
GLITZ & GLAM DRAWS HGTV’S JUSTIN & CHERYL AS SPECIAL GUESTS
The 20th annual Celebration of Hope Breast Cancer Luncheon was a heartwarming and emotional afternoon mixed with excitement and fun as 1,200 women celebrated hope for a cure by raising over $200,000 for Markham Stouffville Hospital’s Breast Health Centre.
Jones New York dressed the stage at the Hilton Suites in Markham with this year’s fall fashions, while Justin Ryan and Cheryl Torrenueva, co-hosts of HGTV’s Colin & Justin’s Home Heist, attended as special guests.
“The Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation is proud and excited to partner with York Region Breast Cancer Friends for this fabulous event,” said Suzette Strong, President, Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation. “The funds raised at this year’s luncheon will continue to support women in our community by funding equipment needs in our Breast Health Centre.”
CHFI’s Erin Davis emceed as the Mistress of Ceremonies while Canada AM’s Beverly Thompson discussed her personal struggle with cancer. Breast Cancer Specialist Dr. Jean-Philippe Pignol provided inspiration and hope by discussing progress in the fight against breast cancer, as the mortality rate has actually dropped due to more effective treatments.
The guests were spoiled with fantastic give-aways in the form of gift bags, door prizes and table gifts courtesy of the many sponsors, including presenting sponsor Mary Kay.
HGTV’s Justin & Cheryl were called onstage to raffle off the beautiful centerpieces. The boutique vendors gave many an early start to holiday shopping while big spenders were in their element during the live auction, which featured fabulous packages for spa services, wine tastings, golf, gourmet meals, personal style services and amazing product offers.
One lucky raffle winner drove away in a 2008 MINI Cooper Convertible, courtesy of MINI Markham and Town + Country BMW. Other raffle prizes included a trip to London, England, a year’s worth of groceries at The Village Grocer, brand new Samsung washer and dryer and handmade leather living room furniture – all for the price of a $10 raffle ticket!

The Celebration of Hope Breast Cancer Luncheon was founded in 1988 by Sandy Saley, Joanne Lennox and Margaret Emin and included only 60 guests in its first year. This year’s event was sold-out six months in advance, and has raised about $2 million in the past 10 years alone in support of the fight against breast cancer.
