H1N1 Influenza Information

An Update to Our Community

We are asking individuals to be aware of the onset of symptoms associated with an influenza-like illness. These include:

  • cough
  • sore throat
  • fever and chills
  • muscle and joint aches
  • shortness of breath

Patients experiencing these symptoms should take all precautions to avoid passing this flu to other individuals or members of their family by:

  • Practising good hand hygiene by washing your hands well and often
  • Sneezing or coughing into the upper sleeve of your shirt
  • Staying at home when you are ill

If you are a patient at the hospital and you have any of these symptoms, please use hand sanitizer, go directly to your appointment area and notify the registration staff of your symptoms. Staff will provide a mask for you to wear.

If your symptoms are severe and you are coming to the hospital to seek treatment, we ask that you come to the emergency department, wash your hands using the hand sanitizer located in the department and put on a face mask, also located in the department.

We also ask that anyone experiencing these symptoms, or any other signs of possible illness, avoid visiting patients and friends currently at the hospital.

Markham Stouffville Hospital is taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our staff and patients and prevent this illness from entering the hospital. We appreciate your assistance.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at myhospital@msh.on.ca.
