Our Sites and the Communities we Serve

The hospital has two sites and several clinics providing community care to nearly 300,000 residents within our catchment area.  Major communities within the Markham Stouffville Hospital reach include Markham, Stouffville and Uxbridge.  The elected Mayors of each Town participate on the Hospital's volunteer Board of Directors.

The Markham Site Community

The Markham Site serves the Towns of Markham and of Whitchurch-Stouffville. Markham is the largest of nine communities in York Region with a population of approximately 270,000. Located at the northern boundary of the City of Toronto, the Town is a blend of four communities – Markham Village, Unionville, Milliken and Thornhill. Markham is a rapidly growing community with numerous housing developments and businesses, quality schools, cultural activities, parks and recreational areas.

Whitchurch-Stouffville

The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville is located just 10 kilometers north of the Markham Site. The community is rapidly expanding as Ontarians are drawn to the area for its fertile rolling farmland, scenic ravines, kettle lakes and forested highlands. Contributing to the draw are major equestrian activities, thoroughbred horse farms, century farms and homes, modern subdivisions, golf courses - many golf courses - and picturesque conservation areas.

 The Uxbridge Site Community

In January of 2004, MSH welcomed Uxbridge Cottage Hospital as a partner site in the provision of hospital care to its community. With 20 beds and a variety of inpatient and ambulatory services, Uxbridge Cottage Hospital serves the communities of Uxbridge and surronding area. The Township of Uxbridge is located northeast of Markham and 40km from Toronto. With a population of just under 20,000, Uxbridge has a comfortable rural community feel yet is close to major urban centres.
