Student Volunteer Program
Thank you for your interest in joining our dedicated, enthusiastic and diverse group of volunteers. The following will assist you to becoming a volunteer at Markham Stouffville Hospital, Markham Site.
About the Student Volunteer Program
To become a student volunteer you must be at least 14 years old and/or in grade nine. All student applicants under 18 years of age require parental consent on the application form.
We ask for a commitment of 1 shift a week of 3-4 hours in duration for the entire summer (June, July and August for post secondary students and July and August for high school students). Our positions are available Monday through Friday during the hours of 8:00-am and 5:00pm. We have very limited evening and week-end opportunities and cannot accommodate volunteers who are not available for the entire summer.
We accept applications from December 1 to February 28 for the summer student volunteer program. The program runs from May to August for post-secondary students and from July to August for high school students.
We no longer accept applications for school year student volunteers which runs from September 1 to June 30. These positions are filled with summer students who expressed interest in staying on during the school year.
We follow up with candidates via email, in mid-May for post-secondary students and mid-June for high school students. We often receive applications in excess of placements available. Due to this, we only contact those applicants who are selected for an interview.
Student application forms can be downloaded or picked up in the Community Resources Department during business hours (Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.) or at the information desk in the main lobby during off hours.
The community resources department is located on the second floor of the hospital behind the information desk.
